Project Overview

Birmingham Disability Resource Centre (DRC) is an organisation that plays a crucial role in supporting individuals with disabilities, helping them navigate various aspects of life with greater ease. However, like many charities, DRC faced challenges in their internal processes: Predominantly with their reporting processes as different teams would submit reports to stakeholders in different ways causing inconsistency across the organisation in terms of how their impact is showcased.

As such the senior leadership team recognised that documenting and standardising these processes would not only help them work more efficiently but also ensure that everyone was on the same page. They wanted to create process maps that could serve as a reference for both current and future team members, making operations smoother and more transparent. The goal was to capture the key steps in their core processes and present them in a way that was easy to understand and follow: So to facilitate this, I worked closely with the senior leadership team to identify the core processes that needed mapping:

We started with a series of workshops where we discussed each of the selected processes in detail: What it involved, who was responsible for each step, and how it all fit together. Once we had a clear understanding, I got to work creating the process maps. These visual representations laid out each step in a logical sequence, highlighting key decision points and responsibilities.

Project Outcome

The process maps have made a big difference for DRC. The senior leadership team now has a clear, standardised view of their core processes, which has helped them identify areas for improvement and ensure consistency across the organisation - Particularly with their reporting process(es). The maps are also being used as a training tool for new staff and a reference guide for current employees. By having these processes documented, DRC is better equipped to continue their important work, with the confidence that staff are more effectively executing on some of their most important high impact tasks.
