Project Overview

Birmingham Disability Resource Centre (DRC) is an organisation that plays a crucial role in supporting individuals with disabilities, making it easier for them to manage everyday challenges. Like many charities, DRC struggled with inconsistent reporting processes, leading to differences in funder reports as to how their impact was showcased.

The senior leadership team recognised that documenting and standardising these processes would improve efficiency and ensure everyone stayed aligned.

We set out to create process maps as clear reference points for both current and future team members, aiming to make operations smoother and more transparent. Our core objective being to capture essential steps in the core processes in a clear, user-friendly format.

We started with a series of workshops where we discussed each of the selected processes in detail: What it involved, who was responsible for each step, and how each action was carried out. Once we had a clear understanding, I got to work creating the process maps. These visual representations laid out each step in a logical sequence, highlighting key decision points and responsibilities.

Project Outcome

The process maps have made a big difference for DRC. The senior leadership team now has a clear, standardised view of their core processes, which has helped them identify areas for improvement and ensure consistency across the organisation - Particularly with their reporting process(es). The maps are also being used as a training tool for new staff and a reference guide for current employees. Documenting these processes has strengthened DRC’s ability to operate effectively, ensuring that staff can perform their most critical, high-impact tasks with greater efficiency and confidence.
